Several machines in one timeline: two services on one box Measured 2026-10-20 on Windows 11 10.0.26200, 13th Gen Intel Core i7-1365U (10 cores, 12 threads), debug build of orbit-service, both services on 127.0.0.1 (Windows loopback). Script: tools/e2e/multi_machine_smoke.py, run three times: python tools/e2e/multi_machine_smoke.py \ --service rust/crates/orbit-service/target/debug/orbit-service.exe \ --target rust/target/release/OrbitTestRust.exe The hub is one service; the second joins it with --join 127.0.0.1:. The true clock offset between the two is zero (one clock), so every microsecond the fit reports is estimator error. The fit at this point had the first 8 probes of the 50 ms burst, so no rate term yet. run best rtt offset reported shift of 20 spans crossing the link 1 565.7 us 46.2 us -79.7 us (all twenty identical) 2 841.4 us 144.7 us -75.1 us 3 410.6 us 82.9 us -86.9 us Every shift is inside the half-round-trip band the probe promises (|error| <= rtt/2 = 205..420 us) and under 90 us. The loopback round trip of a debug build on Windows is an order of magnitude above what post 22 expected for one box (20-60 us); a release build and a wired LAN are still to be measured. Record fan-out, run 1: OrbitTestRust started beside the remote (its own %LOCALAPPDATA%, so only the remote could see its scope segment), listed on the hub as 'OrbitTestRust.exe @WINBOX' with pid 0x1002128, captured from the hub for 2 s: 10,374 of its scopes reached the hub under packed thread ids; the remote reported capturing while the hub did and stopped with it. Estimator alone (orbit-live-server/src/peers.rs, test the_fit_recovers_offset_and_rate_through_queued_probes): a remote 12.345 ms ahead and 30 ppm fast, 100 probes over 60 s with 20 us of jitter and one leg in four queued for up to 2 ms, recovers the rate within 3 ppm and converts a mid-window stamp within 60 us.
